THE REFLECTING GLASS

Over the past week, Hero and I have been traveling across the planet, searching for clues about the location of this mysterious cave. Every town we’ve passed through has added a tiny piece to the puzzle, and so far, we’ve gleaned that the cave is located somewhere deep within the Crackletown Mountains.

The cave we’re looking for is said to contain something called the Reflecting Glass.

According to legend, those who look into the Reflecting Glass see the past of Enderas reflected back at them. It’s said that the Reflecting Glass holds the memories of the entire planet within it, all the Doomlings that have ever been, every event that has ever happened on Enderas—stored here. Meaning the planet itself has a memory. Yes, you heard me right, the planet remembers. I still get goosebumps when I say it out loud.

The Crackletown Mountains are a sprawling range of jagged peaks made of vibrant, multicolored crystals. When the light hits them just right, the entire range seems to glow from within—a breathtaking sight. But their beauty is deceiving. The mountains are infamous for their treacherous paths, sudden crystal avalanches, and numerous... caves.

Unfortunately, no Doomling seems to have any idea where this cave might be located. Which I suppose is why it remains a legend. However, I am keen on finding it.

Hero, on the other hand, is more keen on sharing his newfound love of sandwiches with other Doomlings. Taking a piece of cheese and meat and putting it between two pieces of bread is apparently a very novel concept to these creatures.

I’ve tried to explain to Hero the importance of what we’re trying to achieve. In some towns we’ve even passed statues of legendary Doomlings, brave Doomlings from the past who brought back extraordinary treasures from the planet.

“If we find the Reflecting Glass,” I said to him, “this might be us one day. They might make statues of you and me. We could be the legends.”

But he doesn’t seem to care, which is a bit frustrating. I don’t think he understands the magnitude that a discovery like this would be to the scientific community. It’s not his fault, I suppose.

While no one has been able to provide us with any real direction as to where the Reflecting Glass might be, I’ve recently learned of a remote village that exists high up in the Crackletown Mountains. Few Doomlings live there, but the ones who do are said to be Doomlings from a bygone age—an ancient clade of Doomlings said to be older than the mountains themselves. I am told that if anyone is going to know its location, it’s them.

The journey ahead won’t be easy. The mountains are dangerous, the caves endless, and Hero’s attention span... questionable. But I have to keep going. I have to make this discovery.

More to come.
